Autodesk Maya 2010 announced
Maya 2010

At first look it might come across as just another upgrade with new year tagged at the end but it is far from truth. There were a lot of things you wanted inside Maya and now it seems you have most of them available inside.

If you are an early user of Maya like me, you'll remember a software called Maya | Fusion when it was Alias|Wavefront baby and wondered where it went down. Well, it seems all is not lost after all.

Maya Live leaves a lot to be desired, though it is good for quick tracks and all but not a powerful tool for tracking and matchmoving. Looks like the people at Autodesk really took this matter to heart and et voila!...

3DS Max boasts of Backburner for network rendering and all(arghhh...), even Combustion has it too. Maya has batch render , but it is not like Backburner in any way. This is something I really wanted integrated with Maya, it is an Autodesk product and why cant they add the Backburner support to Maya? Better late than never, they did!

One Maya. More Value.

Autodesk® Maya® 3D modeling, animation, rendering, and visual effects software offers artists an end-to-end creative workflow. Autodesk Maya 2010 software is the first release to unify the Autodesk® Maya® Complete 2009 and Autodesk® Maya® Unlimited 2009 feature sets, advanced matchmoving capabilities, and high dynamic range compositing into a single affordable package. Also included for a complete CG workflow are 5 additional mental ray® for Maya batch rendering nodes and the Autodesk® Backburner™ network render queue manager.

Looks like Toxic would end up becoming a part of Maya from 2010, in fact Toxic had been a tragic history for Autodesk right from the beginning. And most probably it will be integrated very much like compositing in XSI.

I have been using Maya since 3.0 when i started learning on my own, every version has at least one or more new modules added to the application.

Except for the Mental Ray memory management problems, i dont think i have any serious issues with the current version of Maya. Mental Ray controls can possibly benefit from a re-worked UI, lot of core settings are hidden from standard view and it is very cumbersome to locate them every time they are needed.

cool, am impressed with camera tracking stuff and compositing. Would have been better if they incorporate softimage's compositing package (earlier media illusion), as thats been the best of the comp package i ve used till date :)
